Jesse Lingard has been registered and could debut for Corinthians against Fluminense on Wednesday. According to Globo.com, his possible bow underlines how both clubs have chased marquee names this century.

For Fluminense, Ronaldinho was unveiled in July 2015 but lasted only two months, nine games and no goals. Fred arrived in 2009 from Lyon and scored twice on debut against Macaé.

Deco joined after the 2010 World Cup, leaving Chelsea, and drew more than 80,000 to a 2-2 debut with Vasco at the Maracanã. Marcelo returned at 34 after Olympiacos and has won the 2005 and 2023 Carioca, the 2023 Libertadores and the 2024 Recopa.

Thiago Silva came back in 2024, credited with averting a seemingly inevitable relegation, and has 212 appearances and 19 goals.

Corinthians landed Carlos Tevez via MSI for US$16 million, about R$43 million then. Ronaldo signed in December 2008 after a Série B title, ahead of Flamengo, and the move paid off.

Alexandre Pato cost €15 million, around R$40.5 million, weeks after the Club World Cup, with 100% of his rights bought from Milan. Memphis Depay arrived in mid-2024 and the club now owes more than R$40 million in bonuses and targets. Lingard’s deal runs to season’s end, with an extra year possible if targets are met.
