Jhon Lucumi ‘to decide’ future after season as Sunderland links persist | OneFootball

Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi says he will decide his future after the season, with Sunderland’s interest still in the frame.

“Right now, my focus is solely on finishing the season on a high note and helping the team. Then I’ll sit down with my family, with my wife, and we’ll see with my team what’s best for my career.” He told Corriere dello Sport.

The Colombia international has been linked with Wearside for about a year. Sunderland pushed to sign the centre-back last summer but did not agree a deal, then stepped back in January as priorities changed. His situation is still being watched ahead of the window, with a fee in the region of £22million.

Lucumi, 28, has yet to commit to a new contract, and his current deal runs to 2027. His representatives have signalled a desire to explore options, and Bologna are understood to be open to a sale this summer to avoid a drop in value.

“Everything here is fantastic. I’m truly grateful for the way they welcomed me, the way they treated me, and for the affection they’ve shown me and my family.”

“I think it’s right to make a decision based on what’s best for me, for my family, for everyone. I’ll decide only after evaluating everything.”
