Joan Laporta promises Flick contract ‘as long as he wants‘ if re-elected Barcelona president | OneFootball

FC Barcelona was one of the most prominent delegations, led by Joan Laporta, at the 78th edition of the Mundo Deportivo Gala held on Monday at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya.

The event celebrated the outstanding performances of players such as Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Joan Garcia, and Aitana Bonmatí over the past season, highlighting a golden period for the club. As Mundo Deportivo has reported, Laporta spoke about some aspects of the club.

Laporta talked at some length about the signing of Hansi Flick, and ensured he would keep the German on the bench as long as he is the president:

“Flick will have a contract for as long as he wants if I am president. For us, it was important to have someone with his experience and knowledge, but if he’s phenomenal as a coach, he is even more so as a person. The day he was signed, we realized we were doing something important because he is a coach from head to toe, who knows how to lead a group, mixing very young players with experienced ones.”

The top Barcelona official went on to praise the German and explained why he was not given a longer contract:

“He knows the club very well and will gain more experience. He didn’t want more years of experience, but he is the ideal coach for these Barça years, and thanks to him, we are living a very sweet moment.”

Joan Laporta also talked about the possibility of hosting the FIFA World Cup 2030 final:

There is no doubt that Hansi Flick has been decisive in turning around the form of the team, and he deserves all the credit for his achievements. Hopefully, he will continue bringing more glory to Barcelona in the coming months and years.
