According to ExpressAndStar.com, a deal to sell Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes to Atletico Madrid is in the balance after talks stalled.
Jorge Mendes and his Gestifute agency, said to be close to both clubs, were brokering the move. A fee around 30 million was discussed and an agreement was believed to be close, with Atletico ahead of European and Premier League rivals for his signature.
The process has since hit a snag, with Atletico assessing other midfield targets. A final agreement could still be reached, but Gomes' future remains uncertain.
The 25-year-old is still likely to leave this summer, with other clubs showing interest. The Brazilian international, who missed out on a World Cup spot, was left out of the final day draw at Burnley in May.
Former head coach Rob Edwards said at the time that Gomes felt a knee issue and he was not risked. A week earlier, in the draw with Fulham at Molineux, the midfielder appeared to bid farewell to supporters.
Wolves have sprung surprises this summer, with Andre signing a new deal to stay for the Championship campaign. They have also added free agents Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez as new boss Cesar Peixoto targets promotion back to the Premier League.
Further squad work is planned and retaining Gomes in the Championship would be a boost, although a departure remains the likeliest outcome.
