The Rams have already been quietly putting the infrastructure in place to make the most of any increase in spending power.
Among those at Derby County, head coach John Eustace is likely to appreciate the potential impact of Turki Alalshikh’s investment more than most.
The Rams finished eighth in the Championship this past season, ending the campaign four points shy of the play-off places on 69 points.
For a club that was fighting relegation from the second tier when the 46-year-old first took over from Paul Warne, that is real progress, and the opportunity to build on that again next season is exciting.
Given Eustace rarely gives anything business-related away in interviews, he is unlikely to be drawn into discussing said investment news if asked, but he must be happy about it for a lot of reasons.

What makes the Alalshikh update especially relevant is that Derby have already been quietly putting the infrastructure in place to make the most of any increase in spending power.
In March 2026, the Rams confirmed that Leigh Bromby had signed a permanent contract as Talent Acquisition Lead, having previously served as interim recruitment lead.
Eustace has previously praised Bromby as a ‘great addition’, per Derbyshire Live, and the two work closely alongside chief executive Stephen Pearce when it comes to transfers. The April 2026 Supporters' Board notes, made available by the club on Tuesday, went into further detail.
On part of the recruitment section, which was one of the agenda's covered in the meeting, the notes claimed that Eustace "is heavily involved in the process and final decisions, but does not solely dictate recruitment; trust and alignment in the club strategy have been built, and the recruitment, data and coaching teams work together to ensure targets meet the Head Coach's needs."
Ultimately, that is exactly the kind of transparency a manager needs when a summer window is approaching - and any investment would boost that even more.
As for Bromby, well he oversaw the permanent Derby deals for USA international Patrick Agyemang, Derry Murkin and Oscar Fraulo. The latter two, being more recent than Agyemang, were referred to, again in the meeting notes, as "successful acquisitions fitting the club’s short and long-term objectives, whilst fitting into the budget."

FLW exclusively revealed that the Rams, along with league rivals Bristol City, are plotting a move for Barnsley winger Reyes Cleary.
Cleary is a player who contributed to 22 goals across the 25/26 season, and previous reports claim the Tykes' asking price had, at one point, been £5m.
We also exclusively reported that Derby are eyeing Ipswich Town attacking midfielder Conor Chaplin as well, who is available on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Portman Road.
Other names linked with Derby include Oxford United’s Brian De Keersmaecker, as per Alan Nixon, and Dundee United’s Will Ferry. These potential signings paint a picture of a club with clear ideas about where it wants to go.
Factor in fresh investment from a billionaire, should the Independent Football Regulator grant approval, and Pride Park could be set for a real promotion push next season.
Yes, it would not simply hand Derby a chequebook to spend silly amounts, and no fan would want that either, but it would signal to the rest of the Championship that the Rams are serious contenders.
This also fits with what was said in the last part of the aforementioned recruitment section agenda, which was, "Detailed planning for various scenarios has been undertaken for the summer transfer window, and work is already well underway for the upcoming transfer window."
