John Textor was previously linked with a takeover at Sheffield Wednesday
Sheffield Wednesday have had a very turbulent last 12 months between Dejphon Chansiri’s financial mismanagement, going into administration and two prospective new owners of the club coming forward.
A consortium led by former poker player James Bord was initially named as the preferred bidder by administrators Begbies Traynor amid stiff competition from a number of investors.
However, their proposal collapsed in February, which led to the group led by David Storch becoming the next in line to buy the Owls.
The group, Arise Capital, are still awaiting ratification from the EFL to finalise their takeover, but there is optimism that there’s now light at the end of the tunnel.
While Henrik Pedersen’s side have been relegated to League One, and they face the possibility of a 15 point deduction for next season, a new, exciting dawn is finally on the horizon.
And supporters have been given every reason to feel that another massive bullet was dodged following the recent developments involving John Textor, who was also linked with taking over at Hillsborough.

It was reported in the summer that Textor was seeking talks with Chansiri regarding a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday prior to the club going into administration in October.
The American was previously a stakeholder at Crystal Palace through his company Eagle Football Holdings, and it was believed that he was seeking a takeover at Hillsborough in order to return to English football.
Given how disastrously everything was going under Chansiri, almost anyone was seen as an improvement on the Thai businessman.
However, in the months that have followed, it has become increasingly clear that a takeover by Textor would’ve only been going from the frying pan into the fire.
The 60-year-old has also been involved in the ownership of Botafogo in Brazil and Lyon in France, where controversy has surrounded him.
It was reported that he could lose control of the Serie A side back in January after already suffering that fate with Lyon previously, just a few months on from his possible takeover at Sheffield Wednesday.
And now his control over Eagle Holdings Football has vanished, with the company put into administration by its main creditor Ares Capital Corporation.
With the Owls hoping to exit administration in the next few weeks, the contrast in fortunes is a stark reminder that the next bad owner is always just around the corner.

Storch has talked the talk of a promising new owner in the last few weeks, turning up at Hillsborough to meet staff, putting plans in place for when the takeover is ratified.
It pales in comparison to the lack of urgency and transparency from Bord’s consortium, who spent two months going nowhere in their bid to get their proposal approved by the EFL.
Of course, Storch still must walk the walk and follow through on his promises when the time comes, but there is so much more excitement now at Hillsborough than there’s been in quite some time.
Sheffield Wednesday may not be in the Championship next season, but the short-term pain of relegation is likely to far exceed the long-term pain that could’ve been suffered had Textor taken over last year.
The American was also linked with a takeover at Derby County, and both clubs will be glad to have dodged this bullet.
While his time at Crystal Palace may have included their FA Cup triumph, his involvement in the building of that team, and the appointment of Oliver Glasner as head coach, was quite minimal.
The destruction and chaos that he brought to Botafogo and Lyon were as a result of far greater involvement from him as owner.
And now Sheffield Wednesday will not have to worry about what damage he could’ve done at Hillsborough as a new era dawns on the Yorkshire outfit.
