Jonathan Hogg has just completed a rare feat for Huddersfield Town

Few players throughout the EFL have been able to accumulate the same degree of legendary status at one particular club than Jonathan Hogg, who remains revered for his twelve-year stay at Huddersfield Town.

The combative midfielder made the move to West Yorkshire from Watford in the summer of 2013, fresh off the back of helping the Hornets reach the Premier League with an iconic assist for Troy Deeney in the dramatic play-off semi-final victory over Leicester City.

Hogg would instantly establish himself in the Huddersfield side and the Terriers consolidated in the Championship before gaining a stunningly-unprecedented promotion to the top-flight via the play-offs in the 2016/17 campaign.

That term, Hogg was named as Huddersfield's Player of the Year and remained an ever-present throughout his time with the Terriers. All in all, the Aston Villa academy product went on to feature on an almighty 410 occasions across all competitions before hanging up his boots in 2023, by which point he had earned the most appearances in Huddersfield's history.

Hogg just about did it all at the now-named Accu Stadium, and is still involved with the League One outfit to this day as he currently holds a player-coach role.

However, there is one thing at Huddersfield which Hogg barely did - and he's now just done it.

Jonathan Hogg does rare thing for Huddersfield Town

Hogg, of course, was a combative and tough-tackling midfielder who was renowned for his work-rate, tenacity and commitment to the cause during his days in blue-and-white.

He wasn't exactly renowned for his goalscoring ability, though, having only ever registered six strikes - four at home - in more than 400 appearances for Town.

But, in rare fashion, Hogg has now scored an all-too-rare goal in HD1 as he continues to combine his coaching ambitions with a desire to play in some capacity and help Town's young guns as part of the club's under-21 setup.

Huddersfield's under-21's claimed a thrilling 3-2 victory over QPR at the Accu Stadium in Tuesday afternoon's Professional Development League, in which the Terriers race into an early lead before seeing their position threatened through late goals from the visitors.

They held on for all three points, though, courtesy of a brace from George Sebine and Hogg's headed effort.

Considering how goal-shy Hogg has been throughout an iconic association with Huddersfield which still runs to this day, it was a great moment for all involved and Town supporters will love seeing the 37-year-old find the back of the net.

Jonathan Hogg won't like Huddersfield Town's current fortunes

Hogg will be cherishing the opportunity to remain involved with Huddersfield in a capacity which enables him to support the next generation of potential Town stars, although he'll be less pleased with the state of affairs regarding the senior side as they continue to stumble in their efforts to return to the Championship from League One.

Huddersfield headed into the campaign as widely-billed title contenders under Lee Grant, but the season hasn't played out as expected following last term's disappointing mid-table finish and a similar conclusion could be in store this term.

Former Bristol City and Norwich boss Liam Manning was appointed to succeed Grant, though he has just been handed compassionate leave for the remainder of the season as Huddersfield prepare to battle for the top-six in fresh hands.

They're now ninth, having won just one of the last five matches, and have surrendered vital ground in the race for the play-offs with sixth-placed Stevenage boasting a three-point advantage and a game in hand.

It's looking increasingly likely that a third successive season in the third-tier awaits for Huddersfield, which will ask further questions of owner Kevin Nagle and the club's recruitment strategy, and the Terriers are in a considerably different position these days compared to the apex of Hogg's Town tenure.
