Wolves are interested in Jordan James and Ellis Simms as Rob Edwards looks to add to his squad ahead of the 2026/27 Championship campaign.
Wolves have started their rebuild for life back in the Championship, with Kieran Trippier set to become their first signing of the summer.
In what is seen as a statement signing for Rob Edwards’ side, the former England international will join on an initial two-year deal.
With Andre committing his future to the club in a very surprising move, there has finally been some positive news for Wolves fans after a dismal Premier League campaign.

However, it’s clear a lot more work is required to change the squad, so a busy summer is on the cards at Molineux.
And, in a fresh update on Wolves’ plans, Telegraph journalist John Percy has revealed that Edwards is ‘prioritising British talent’.
He adds that Jordan James is a target for the club, with the Welsh international having enjoyed a superb individual season with Leicester City on loan from Rennes.
Even though the Foxes were relegated, James scored 11 goals in 34 games from midfield, as well as registering four assists, with the ex-Birmingham man undoubtedly a standout performer at the King Power Stadium.
That form hasn’t gone unnoticed, and the update confirms that whilst Wolves admire the 21-year-old, they recognise that it will be a difficult deal to do due to the competition for his signature.
Leeds and Villarreal are among the other clubs believed to be tracking James, who is likely to leave Rennes this summer.
Elsewhere, Percy claims that Coventry City’s Ellis Simms is a target for Wolves, but it’s another one that will be tough to do, as the Sky Blues may not want to cash in.
Simms scored 13 times in 43 games for Frank Lampard’s side as they won promotion to the Premier League, so he will hope to be given a chance to impress in the top flight.
Wolves’ recruitment has been abysmal over the years, so this is positive in the sense that they seem to have more of a plan in place.
Of course, it’s important to have a balance in any squad, but there’s no denying they lack a core group of players that can be relied on in the Championship.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side that won promotion in 2018 caught the headlines with the likes of Willy Boly, Ruben Neves and Diogo Jota in the team, but they also had John Ruddy, Ryan Bennett, Conor Coady and Matt Doherty, who all played a big role.

Edwards has recognised that Wolves are lacking players like that, and the deal for Trippier is a positive step in changing the culture at the club.
In terms of James, that is a signing that would go down very well. He was very good for Leicester, and he is someone who has the ability to play at a higher level, so it would be a coup if they could win the race to bring him in.
A deal for Simms wouldn’t be greeted with the same enthusiasm, but he has won promotion from the Championship with Coventry, and he could be the ideal focal point to allow the likes of Mateus Mane, Rodrigo Gomes and Fer Lopez to flourish if they stick around.
