Jordi Alba announces retirement at 36 | OneFootball

Jordi Alba announced on Tuesday that he will retire from professional football at the end of the MLS season.

In an emotional video shared on his personal Instagram account, the full-back expressed his gratitude to his family, colleagues, coaches, officials, and fans from all the clubs he has represented.

Alba began his football journey at La Masia, Barcelona’s famed youth academy. At 16, he moved to Valencia, where he developed into one of the Spanish league’s top full-backs.

After three seasons with Valencia and winning the 2012 European Championship with Spain, Alba returned to his boyhood club, FC Barcelona, signing for the ‘club of his life’.

During his time at the Camp Nou, he became one of the world’s leading full-backs and contributed to a highly successful era, winning six La Liga titles, five Copa del Rey, four Spanish Super Cups, and a UEFA Champions League.

In 2023, Alba joined Inter Miami, reuniting with former Barcelona teammates and friends, including Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, and Sergio Busquets, for a new adventure in the United States.

At 36, Alba will follow his teammate Busquets, who retired at the end of September, and will bring his distinguished playing career to a close at the end of the MLS season.
