José Renato Quaresma has stepped back from Santos’s youth set-up and is no longer involved in decisions on the Meninos da Vila. He is expected to return to the club’s Conselho Deliberativo.

He was invited by the Marcelo Teixeira administration in December 2023, when they were elected, to lead the academy. According to Diario Do Peixe, he worked alongside coordinator Rodrigão until the arrival of Elano as the new academy manager at the start of this month.

After Elano came in, president Marcelo Teixeira, his son Marcelinho and Daniel Alves of the Management Committee met with Quaresma, Rodrigão and Batata, who is moving from futsal to the pitch. They had been the academy’s leads up to that point.

Teixeira pushed for more results from the youth ranks. The coordinators say the board has offered limited resources and, despite some cuts, they had set up processes for the youngsters. Elano’s addition left the club’s structure muddled, and, as all statutory directors are licensed councillors, the idea now is for him to contribute from a different angle.

Quaresma has been active in Santos politics for years. He sat on Modesto Roma Jr’s Management Committee in 2015 but was dismissed in July that year after disagreements with the president. In 2021 he returned to Andres Rueda’s committee as head of the Football Department, stepped away in May after contracting Covid, then left the body for good in June.
