Manchester United spent big on new attackers in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko for some £200m to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s forward line.

Their arrival paved the way for Alejandro Garnacho’s departure to Chelsea and indicated the end for Rasmus Hojlund, who joined Napoli on loan.

Zirkzee wanted at Old Trafford

Ruben Amorim was ruthless in his treatment of unwanted players, and the likes Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho were also shown the door, but the head coach opted to keep Joshua Zirkzee.

The Dutchman was strongly linked with a return to Italy, where he bagged 14 goals in 58 games for Bologna before being snapped up by United last year.

But the messaging that Amorim saw Zirkzee as an important player in his squad was clear – as recently as late September, Fabrizio Romano reiterated this.

Nevertheless, with only 74 Premier League minutes and no starts so far this season, questions are once again being asked around the 24-year-old’s Old Trafford future.

Premier League plan

Reports emerged earlier today that long-term admirers Juventus are cooking up a potential swap deal to sign Zirkzee in exchange for striker Dusan Vlahovic in January.

But according to TEAMtalk, the player may prefer to stay in England. The report notes that Zirkzee “will consider staying in the Premier League when he weighs up his next move”, which could be sooner rather than later.

Much like Garnacho, who rebuffed several offers from abroad in order to stay in the Premier League with Chelsea, Zirkzee “may yet decide not to give up on cracking the English top flight.”

Zirkzee reportedly “believes he has what it takes to succeed in English football” but will carefully consider his next step.

West Ham and Everton potential suitors

TEAMtalk claim that Everton and West Ham are potential destinations for the player and are “among clubs set to be kept informed about his situation”.

West Ham reportedly “assessed” Zirkzee during David Moyes’ time at the club and may retain this interest as they seek attacking reinforcements in January, as Everton are also likely to do.

TEAMtalk report that Zirkzee is now “beginning to consider his options” and intermidiaries are “to explore potential moves ahead of the January window, with both loan and permanent deals likely to be under consideration.”
