Jota Silva’s time at Nottingham Forest is set to end after Besiktas finalised a deal to bring the winger to Turkey.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs reached full agreement on Thursday, with Silva flying out tonight to complete the move. The deal is structured as a loan worth around €3m, with a buy option close to €17m that could become mandatory.
Silva joined Forest from Vitoria Guimaraes in the summer of 2024 but struggled to establish himself in the Premier League. He managed just 840 minutes across 31 appearances last season, scoring three goals, and has featured for only 12 minutes in the current campaign.
Besiktas moved quickly to secure the Portuguese forward before the Turkish transfer window shuts, with the deal seen as an important step in strengthening their attacking options. Silva will become their latest high-profile addition as they look to mount a title challenge.
The 26-year-old never fully convinced at the City Ground after being brought in by compatriot Nuno Espirito Santo. The former Forest manager’s exit and the arrival of Ange Postecoglou further reduced Silva’s chances of regular football.
Postecoglou is in the process of reshaping the squad and with Forest reinforcing their wide areas during the summer, Silva slipped further down the pecking order. His exit allows the new boss to focus on players who fit more closely with his style of play.
For Besiktas, Silva arrives with pedigree from the Portuguese league, where he built a reputation as a direct and energetic winger. His ability to stretch defences could make him a valuable asset in the Turkish Super Lig, where Besiktas are chasing domestic honours and progress in Europe.
Forest, meanwhile, benefit financially from a deal that provides an immediate loan fee and the prospect of a permanent transfer next year. The club also lighten their wage bill as they adjust to Postecoglou’s tenure.
Romano confirmed the final details with his trademark “here we go,” writing that Silva was set to travel tonight. The move closes a chapter in the winger’s career in England that promised much but delivered little, while offering him a fresh start in Istanbul.
