Liverpool’s pursuit of PSG forward Bradley Barcola continues to gather momentum, with David Lynch suggesting the transfer is moving towards a decisive stage.
Speaking to Dave Davis on the latest episode of Media Matters for Anfield Index, Lynch outlined why he believes Liverpool remain in a strong position to sign the France international, while explaining why PSG’s public valuation should not alarm supporters.
With Liverpool continuing to reshape the squad under new head coach Andoni Iraola, Barcola remains the club’s priority attacking target, but Lynch believes the final stages of negotiations will come down to finances rather than desire from either side.
The discussion began with the latest reports surrounding Barcola’s future after claims emerged that the winger had informed PSG he would not sign a new contract.
Dave Davis noted that “things seem to have sort of come alive again,” before asking whether Liverpool were now entering serious negotiations.
Lynch believes the current stage is exactly what supporters should expect.
“Everyone’s setting out the stall.”
He was also quick to dismiss the reported €170 million valuation that has surrounded the deal.
“That’s PSG’s public stance, but let’s have it right, that’s all that is.”
Lynch added:
“They’re not going to get anywhere near that. Liverpool won’t go near that sort of sum.”
Instead, he expects common ground to be found.
“A deal can be done way below that.”
David Lynch believes several factors continue to move Liverpool closer to a potential agreement.
Firstly, he dismissed suggestions that Barcola favours another destination.
“The player is keen on Liverpool.”
He also addressed speculation linking the winger elsewhere.
“So many people on comments on YouTube trying to tell me he prefers Arsenal… not the case.”
Lynch then explained why PSG may eventually have little choice but to negotiate.
“PSG will probably be forced to sell because he’s got two years left. He wants to go.”
He also believes Barcola is seeking a more prominent role.
“He wants to be the main man somewhere and Liverpool offer that.”
Those factors leave Lynch optimistic about Liverpool’s chances.

Although Lynch sounded encouraged throughout the conversation, he stressed that one major issue still needs resolving.
“It’s never a question of whether Liverpool like the player or the player likes Liverpool.”
Instead, he believes everything now comes down to the financial package.
“It was more, is it financially feasible?”
He continued:
“What does the deal end up looking like? What do PSG actually demand?”
Lynch suggested Liverpool are still assessing exactly where negotiations are likely to finish before making their decisive move.
Despite urging patience, Lynch repeatedly returned to the idea that the transfer is moving in Liverpool’s favour.
“We’re moving somewhere.”
He also believes circumstances will eventually force progress.
“I just feel PSG are going to get forced into a situation where they have to sell.”
That confidence extended to his overall prediction.
“If you ask me to put a bet on either way, I would still lean towards that Barcola ends up signing for Liverpool.”
Lynch did acknowledge that supporters may need to wait a little longer, particularly with Barcola only recently returning from international duty following the World Cup.
“There is no rushing that,” he explained, adding that Liverpool are unlikely to leave matters until transfer deadline day.
For now, the conversation between Dave Davis and David Lynch paints an increasingly positive picture. Liverpool remain fully focused on signing Bradley Barcola from PSG, the player appears eager for the move, and while the financial details still require work, Lynch believes all the ingredients are in place for an agreement to be reached before the transfer window closes.
