Credit to the original reporting by CF Bayern Insider for revealing a significant development in the race for one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers. Fresh information from Christian Falk suggests that Bayern Munich are stepping away from a move for Yan Diomande, a situation that could play directly into the hands of Liverpool.
The 19-year-old winger has enjoyed a stunning breakout campaign with RB Leipzig, quickly becoming one of the most talked about young attackers in European football. With Bayern reconsidering their position due to cost, the pathway appears clearer for Premier League sides to pursue a deal.
According to Falk’s report, Bayern admire Diomande’s ability but cannot justify the financial commitment required for a player who would likely play behind Luis Diaz on the left wing.
“It is TRUE: Yan Diomande is no longer a priority for Bayern’s decision-makers,” Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.
“He obviously has so much quality and is playing very well in the Bundesliga this term. So, he’s not off the list because he’s a poor player, but rather because he’s too good and too expensive! Bayern know how much RB Leipzig are looking for in a transfer fee (negotiations will start at €100m [£86.2m]) and it’s a lot! Certainly more than what Bayern are prepared to pay at the moment.
“And the fact of the matter is that they already have Luis Diaz, who is the main man on the left side. They can’t pay so much money for what would effectively be a backup signing.
“So, it’s hard for Bayern Munich, given they love the player, but they won’t be involved in the poker with Premier League clubs. He’s too expensive.”
This shift in Bayern’s stance dramatically alters the transfer landscape. Clubs with both the financial strength and the need for attacking reinforcement now have a clearer opportunity.

Liverpool and Manchester United have both been credited with serious interest, with reports suggesting the Reds are among the frontrunners.
The reasoning behind Liverpool’s pursuit is straightforward. Under Arne Slot, the squad has shown a clear lack of explosive pace in wide areas. The left flank has lacked consistent penetration, while the right side has also seen diminishing returns as Mohamed Salah adapts his game later in his career.
Diomande offers a solution to both problems. Comfortable on either wing, his ability to stretch defences and attack space could restore an element of unpredictability to Liverpool’s forward line.
The Ivorian teenager’s numbers help explain the growing hype around him.
Across all competitions in the 2025-26 campaign, Diomande has delivered 11 goals and seven assists in 27 appearances. In his last four Bundesliga games alone he has registered three goals and one assist, an impressive output for a player experiencing his first full season at this level.
Given that Leipzig are expected to open negotiations around £86.2m, any deal would represent a major investment. Yet modern Premier League economics mean Liverpool are among the few clubs capable of justifying such a fee for a player with long term upside.
With Bayern effectively stepping aside, the transfer race could now accelerate.

Bayern’s withdrawal removes a formidable competitor from the equation. German clubs are often well placed to sign Bundesliga talent, but financial reality has forced the champions to look elsewhere.
For Liverpool, this development could prove pivotal. If Diomande truly sits high on the club’s shortlist, the opportunity to negotiate without Bayern’s involvement significantly strengthens their hand.
The coming months will reveal whether the Reds are prepared to match Leipzig’s valuation, but one thing is clear, Diomande’s rise has made him one of the most intriguing attacking prospects in European football.
From a Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this report feels like one of those transfer stories that genuinely makes sense on several levels.
First, the profile fits what the squad needs right now. Liverpool’s attack still carries quality, but there is an obvious lack of explosive pace in wide areas. Arne Slot’s system thrives when wingers can stretch the pitch and attack defenders directly, and that has been missing too often this season.
Diomande’s ability to play on both flanks is particularly attractive. Salah remains a huge presence at the club, but the long term succession planning has to begin. A player capable of contributing immediately while also developing into a future starter ticks a lot of boxes.
The financial side is interesting as well. £86m is a massive fee, but Liverpool have already demonstrated a willingness to spend heavily under the current ownership structure. If the recruitment team believe Diomande has genuine elite potential, the club might view the price as justified rather than excessive.
Bayern stepping away from the race could be the biggest factor of all. When a club with their recruitment record moves aggressively, they often win the deal. Without them involved, the pathway for Liverpool becomes far clearer.
Of course, Manchester United lurking in the background always complicates matters. Yet if Diomande values development, structure and a defined tactical role, Liverpool might still present the more convincing project.
For now, this feels like a story to watch closely as the summer window approaches. If the Reds truly are frontrunners, the next few months could become very interesting.
