Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries has left the door open to a move to England after admitting he would relish the chance to test himself in the Premier League. The Dutch international, who has been a key figure for Inter since his arrival from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, has consistently been linked with Manchester United. As reported by Metro.

Speaking after scoring in a 1-1 draw for the Netherlands against Poland, Dumfries said: “The Premier League is a fantastic competition. I’m happy at Inter, but I think I could also do very well in England. If there were a professional opportunity, I would certainly be interested.”
Dumfries has been central to Inter’s recent success, particularly under Simone Inzaghi, scoring 11 goals across competitions last season as the club reached the Champions League final. His form coincided with speculation about his future, as reports circulated of a €25m release clause in his contract that expired in mid-July.

Inzaghi’s departure this summer has added to the uncertainty, though Inter have not actively sought to move him on. For United, his profile continues to align with their tactical direction under Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils explored right-sided options during the summer, but no formal bid for Dumfries materialised. Even so, his suitability for Amorim’s system has drawn attention. United legend Gary Neville offered a glowing endorsement last season: “With the way Man United are playing with a back-five and wing-backs under Ruben Amorim, I was thinking about that right wing-back. I was thinking about Dumfries for United. I would like to see him in the Premier League, wouldn’t you? How good was he? He was unbelievable. He’s so good, so good.”

Dumfries himself has acknowledged the contrasting demands between leagues. “The Premier League is known for its intensity, while Serie A is known for its tactical ability. These are two different approaches to football. The Champions League, however, always offers exciting clashes.”
For now, he remains committed to Inter, but his comments underline a willingness to embrace a new challenge should the right opportunity emerge.
Denzel Dumfries is not only proven at the highest level with Inter but also offers the dynamism United have lacked on the right flank of a back five. His physical presence, attacking intent and ability to influence games in big moments make him a natural fit for Ruben Amorim’s system.
Gary Neville’s words echo what many supporters already believe. A right wing-back who can balance defensive duty with real threat in the final third is critical to Amorim’s shape. Dumfries has shown in Serie A and the Champions League that he thrives in those situations. His goal-scoring return last season, alongside his reliability in Europe, suggests he could slot straight in.
United’s reluctance to push for him this summer may have been financial, but his €25m clause, now expired, highlighted what could have been a bargain. Even if the fee is higher next year, the investment might be worthwhile for the stability and creativity he would bring.
For excited fans, the thought of Dumfries bombing down the flank at Old Trafford feels like the missing piece in a puzzle. If United are serious about reshaping under Amorim, this is the type of signing that signals intent. Dumfries has already said he wants the challenge. United should be listening.
