Dario Essugo is attracting interest from Levante as the La Liga outfit assess a potential loan deal according to Ben Jacobs.

Essugo arrived at Chelsea in the summer from Sporting Lisbon, and made his debut at the Club World Cup, however he’s yet to play in the Premier League.

The 20-year-old underwent surgery on a thigh injury he picked up whilst on international duty in September with Portugal under-21s.

Levante assessing Dario Essugo loan move

Essugo was expected to be out until December, and despite briefly returning to training Maresca confirmed he’d suffered a set back.

It was confirmed before the Leeds clash Essugo would miss the next three games, but he’s still yet to return to action.

Essugo was reportedly signed as the alternative for Moises Caicedo, but his first season at Stamford Bridge has been disrupted by injury.

The Portuguese possesses plenty of ability, but Chelsea are yet to see that and Jacobs has reported Levante are assessing a loan move for him.

He reported in his Give Me Sport column Essugo’s representatives have held some initial discussions with clubs in the latter part of the year.

Jacobs adds Chelsea are yet to finalise a plan for Essugo, but their priority is to get him back to fitness, and ease the workload on Caicedo.

Whilst the Blues have been linked with the likes of Kees Smit and Noah Sadiki it’s highly unlikely a midfielder arrives in January.

However, it’s been reported Chelsea are looking to sign a midfielder as a priority next summer, to help ease the workload on Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

Whether the Blues are looking for additional depth or one of the current crop of midfielders will leave remains to be seen, but Romeo Lavia could be a likely candidate if the Blues decide to move someone on.
