Juan Sartori was central to Sunderland’s jubilant scenes at St James’s Park as the club came from behind to beat Newcastle United 2-1.
According to Sunderland Echo, the co-owner was pitchside before kick-off with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, both taking in the atmosphere ahead of the Tyne-Wear derby. Their presence underlined the stakes as Sunderland chased a league double.
Despite a lengthy injury list, Régis Le Bris’s side responded after falling behind early. The second-half display proved decisive, with Chemsdine Talbi making history as the youngest Sunderland player to score against Newcastle in the Premier League at 20 years and 317 days, while Brian Brobbey’s late strike sealed the comeback and ignited the 2,000 travelling supporters.
After full-time Sartori and Louis-Dreyfus were seen on the concourse, interacting with supporters and helping to lead the celebrations. They were also spotted near the away section, applauding the travelling fans.
The result extended Sunderland’s unbeaten league run against Newcastle to 11 meetings and delivered a first league double since 2014-15. Newcastle remain without a league derby win since 2011 and have not beaten Sunderland at St James’s Park in the league since 2010. On social media Sartori hailed a last-minute away win and lauded the team’s heart to the very end, echoing the club’s ‘Till the End’ mantra.
