Julio Arca has hailed Enzo Le Fée after the playmaker’s influence on Sunderland’s seventh-placed Premier League finish under Régis Le Bris.

According to Sunderland Echo, Arca described the Frenchman as fantastic and highlighted his ability to operate centrally, off the front line or out wide.

Le Fée has been among Sunderland’s most technically gifted performers, with Le Bris trusting him to find space and make sound decisions in possession. His creativity, close control and knack for drifting into dangerous areas have made him a regular link between midfield and attack.

The switch into a number 10 role has suited him, bringing greater freedom. He has been allowed to roam, link play and create angles for team-mates while still working back.

Arca believes that licence is crucial, saying the player is encouraged to move intelligently to receive the ball. He feels Le Fée has grown in confidence compared to last season and that playing alongside better players helps, viewing him as another important figure.

With Europa League football ahead, his technical qualities could be even more important. Sunderland may need players who can keep possession, slow games and conjure moments of imagination in tight contests.
