Brazil beat Croatia 3-1 on Tuesday 31 in their penultimate friendly before the World Cup in June. According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo great Junior praised Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha afterwards.

He wished Cunha good luck, celebrated another Paraíba native heading to the tournament and urged him to follow Mazinho’s example by bringing the trophy home. Junior also shared a photo with the Brazil striker.

Carlo Ancelotti started Cunha in both friendlies against France and Croatia. Against the Croats, the forward began the move for the first goal, with Vinícius Junior supplying the final pass for Danilo Santos to finish.

Cunha is viewed as virtually certain to make the Brazil squad for the World Cup. Ancelotti will confirm the final list on 18 May at CBF headquarters.

Junior and Cunha were both born in João Pessoa, Paraíba. Mazinho was born in Santa Rita in the metropolitan area and was a 1970 World Cup winner.

Brazil host Panama at the Maracanã on 31 May, then face Egypt on 6 June. They will then travel to the United States to meet Morocco, Haiti and Scotland in Group C.
