The great Liverpool squad built by Jurgen Klopp has been slowly disassembled at Anfield over the past few years.
The legendary German manager put together a side that managed 196 points across two seasons, winning both a Champions League and a Premier League in that period too.
That side is widely considered one of the best in Premier League history, but there are only a few players that still remain at Anfield.
At least two more, Andy Robertson and Mo Salah, will be leaving this summer, but a Klopp favourite might be making their way back to the Premier League at the same time
One of the most memorable components of Klopp’s great Liverpool side was the midfield three of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum.
All three had left Liverpool by the time Klopp stepped away from the dugout in 2024 but one could now be set to return to Anfield at some point next season.
Henderson has already made his Premier League return, finding success with a Brentford side that are now pushing for European qualification, but Wijnaldum could also be back in England next season.
That’s according to a report from Football Insider that claims newly promoted Coventry City, managed by Frank Lampard, are exploring a deal to bring the 35-year-old back to England.
Wijnaldum moved from Liverpool to PSG on a free transfer in 2021 and later spent a short spell at Roma before ending up with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.
Although he is currently the club’s captain, his contract is set to expire this summer, and Coventry are reportedly weighing up a one-year deal for Wijnaldum.
The midfielder’s age may raise some questions, but his impressive 17 goals and six assists this season for Al-Ettifaq are enough alone to risk taking a punt on him.
Coventry will be looking for players with Premier League experience ahead of their return to the competition after 25 years, and Wijnaldum could be an excellent addition.
Liverpool supporters will no doubt give the former Red a very warm welcome if he does return to Anfield with Coventry next season, and will wish him all the best in his next move.
