After the departure of Emma Hayes last summer, new boss Sonia Bompastor has made an exceptional start to life in London and is on course for an undefeated season.
But how does the French coach's season compare to previous Emma Hayes seasons in the WSL? Playmaker had a look.
A full fixture of 22 games has only existed since the 2020/21 season (due to the 2019/20 campaign being interrupted by COVID) but Bompastor is on course for the best season yet.
Since the 2020/21 season, when teams played a full 22 game season no team has managed to go unbeaten throughout a season – something Bompastor could pioneer.
Currently, Chelsea (unsurprisingly) have the points record in the 22-game era with 58 points in the 2022/23 season. That year, Emma Hayes won 19 games, drew one, and lost two throughout the season.
But with the Blues currently on 57 this season, that record could be smashed on the weekend should they defeat Liverpool at home and reach 30 points.
In fact, of the six best points total of the 22-game era, Chelsea make up five of them. Only Manchester United (56 points in the 2022/23 campaign) have disrupted the Blues' points dominance.
While United's second-place finish of 56 points was the best challenge to Chelsea's dominance, Manchester City followed close behind with 55 points both from their 2020/21 and 2023/24 seasons.
A win for Chelsea then, would be the best-ever points tally in a 22-game WSL season and also be an unprecedented campaign that hasn't yet been replicated in recent seasons.
Only Liverpool can prevent Sonia Bompastor from becoming an instant record-breaker.
