In a major development, journalist Nil Sola reports that Barcelona, Girona, and Marc-Andre ter Stegen are close to reaching a total agreement over a loan deal for the goalkeeper.
Ter Stegen has fallen out of favour at Barcelona, finding himself behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny in the pecking order under Hansi Flick this season.
Post his return after back surgery, the 33-year-old club captain had been hopeful of gaining minutes in the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup. But things have not gone his way, even though he was handed a rare chance in the cup tie against Guadalajara last month.
Last night’s Copa clash vs Racing Santander, where Flick started Garcia, made it very clear to the German international that he would not play much if he stayed.

It has served to accelerate talks over a loan move with Girona having made their interest in the veteran star clear for weeks now.
As per the aforementioned report, a three-way agreement between Barcelona, Girona, and Ter Stegen is close to being finalised.
One of the issues which would have hindered negotiations was Ter Stegen’s high salary, which Girona were not in a position to cover.
However, as per the report, the Barcelona captain has agreed to forgive some of his wages and accept the share that the Montilivi-based side are able to pay, paving the way for the move.
Some final details are being worked upon, but everything indicates that Ter Stegen is nearing a loan exit from Barcelona and joining cross-town rivals Girona, with the move likely to be completed next week.
