Inter Milan are reportedly interested in bringing Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana back to the club.

The Cameroonian has been on the Red Devils’ books since making a £47 million move in the summer of 2023.

At the time, the custodian was coming from a sensational first season at San Siro, when he helped the Nerazzurri reach the final of the Champions League, before falling short against Manchester City in the final.

Therefore, the Premier League giants identified him as the right profile to replace David De Gea, who was allowed to leave the club that summer after 12 unforgettable years in Carrington.

Inter consider re-signing Andre Onana from Man United

Sadly for Man Utd, signing Onana proved to be an unmitigated disaster, as the goalkeeper endured two shaky campaigns at Old Trafford, blighted by recurring howlers.

Onana was also speculated to be an ‘unpopular’ figure in the dressing room due to his knack for showboating at the expense of the team’s best interest.

United were finally able to replace the Cameroonian last summer, bringing in Senne Lammens. Since selling Onana without registering a capital loss wasn’t possible for United, they sent him on loan to Trabzonspor.

The 29-year-old has been enjoying a decent campaign in Turkiye. While this is unlikely to earn him a return to Old Trafford, where the fanbase is unlikely to embrace him, he might be able to secure a comeback that evokes fond memories.

According to FcInterNews journalist Simone Togna, Inter have enquired about the goalkeeper’s availability.

Why Inter Milan want Onana back

After selling Onana to Man Utd, the Serie A leaders replaced him with Yann Sommer. Unlike the Cameroonian, the experienced Swiss enjoyed two solid 2023/24 and 2024/25 campaigns.

However, the 37-year-old is enduring a steep decline this term, and many believe that his best days are already behind him.

Therefore, Inter are already adamant about signing a new goalkeeper next summer, and the source claims that Onana is one of the names on the shortlist.

The former Ajax man remains a popular figure at San Siro, and Man Utd would be more than happy to send him back to Italy.

The shot-stopper’s contract with the Red Devils runs until June 2028, so he should be available for £20 million or less in the summer. However, it remains to be seen if the Nerazzurri would be willing to cover his current salary, or whether Onana would accept a pay cut to facilitate the move.
