Manchester United are reportedly preparing to submit a formal offer for Benjamin Sesko as a response to Newcastle.
The two Premier League clubs are equally determined to sign a new centre-forward this summer, as the Red Devils need an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund, while the Magpies might be forced to find a replacement for wantaway Alexander Isak.
Amidst the lack of options at this stage of the summer, MUFC and NUFC have both identified Sesko as their preferred target.
While Man Utd have been monitoring the 22-year-old RB Leipzig star for quite some time now, it was Newcastle who made the first big move, submitting an offer worth almost £70 million for Sesko.
Thanks to their superior finances, the Geordies already have the required resources to close the deal with the Bundesliga club and meet the Slovenian’s wage demands. However, Sesko asked for additional time before making a final decision on the future, giving United a much-needed lifeline.

Nevertheless, INEOS must have realised that time is running out, so they are now expected to present Leipzig with a formal offer, explains Sky Sports News correspondent Dharmesh Sheth.
The same source reveals that the young striker is open to joining either club, but is now inclined to pick Man United, at least if they manage to find an agreement with Leipzig over a transfer fee. However, Sheth doesn’t mention whether United’s offer will match the one presented by Newcastle a few days ago.
The journalist also believes that Sesko’s arrival at Carrington could open the door for Hojlund’s departure.
The Denmark international had recently stated his desire to remain at the club and fight for his place, but he has also been linked with a return to Serie A, where he had made a name for himself at Atalanta in the 2022/23 season.
It is also interesting to see if MUFC are capable of matching Newcastle’s offer prior to offloading their outcasts, namely Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Jadon Sancho.
