FC Bayern are currently enjoying an exceptionally strong season and are one of the best teams in Europe at the moment. Vincent Kompany’s team’s performances have even got a fellow coach from Italy raving about them

Even though FC Bayern did not pick up a win at the weekend for a change, they are comfortably nine points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table. They also go into the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Atalanta Bergamo with a similarly comfortable lead, having won the first leg 6:1 last Tuesday

The Munich side impressively demonstrated the calmness and class with which they are able to outplay Bergamo’s man-to-man pressing and find gaps in „La Dea’s“ defensive structure. Although goalscorer Harry Kane sat on the bench for 90 minutes, Bayern produced a real offensive firework display in Bergamo

Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti was impressed by Bayern’s magical soccer: „In modern soccer, everyone has to find their position on the pitch, with balance and a constant change of roles, but in a dynamic and fluid way. Just look at Bayern Munich the other day against Atalanta – they showed us a veritable encyclopaedia of movements and positional play in soccer,“ philosophised the 67-year-old

Atalanta coach had to apologize

After the 6-1 defeat against Bayern, Atalanta coach Raffaele Palladino was very impressed by the performance of his opponents from Munich. He had already described them as „the strongest team in the world“ before the game. At the post-match press conference, he explained that FCB had just proved just that

Palladino even went so far as to apologise to the fans for the game and the result. „I’m sorry for this evening, because that was obviously not the result we wanted,“ he summed up after the final whistle. Before the game, he had surprised the fans with his line-up and switched to a back four. As became clear 90 minutes later, this was obviously the wrong approach.
