Juventus have pulled the plug on Igor Tudor after their third consecutive loss at the hands of Lazio. The previous ones had come versus Real Madrid and Como. Considering multiple draws, the Bianconeri won their last game in mid-September, against Inter. They are 8th in Serie A and 25th in the Champions League.
The Croat was appointed as a glorified caretaker manager after the ousting of Thiago Motta, reviving the squad and securing a top-four finish on the last matchday. He was confirmed and received a renewal through 2027 after the brass didn’t land a top coach early last summer.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, part of the Juventus management wanted to give Tudor more time, but owner John Elkann signed off on the firing to prevent things from further unraveling. Per Tuttomercatoweb, it’s the first time the Bianconeri go through two coaching changes in the same calendar year.
Next Gen gaffer Massimo Brambilla will helm the Old Lady against Udinese midweek. Luciano Spalletti is the top choice of the front office, Sky relays. Raffaele Palladino is a more attainable alternative, followed by Roberto Mancini, Edin Terzic, and Daniele De Rossi, La Repubblica informs.
It was inevitable, as their performances have been Groundhog Day for about two months, with very few positives on either end, and every opponent easily exploiting their flaws. There have been no juggernauts in Serie A yet, so it’s not too hard to rally back. A high-profile coach wouldn’t guarantee success, but it’s the best shot they have. It’ll be interesting to see if they’ll be able to stomach another multi-year contract, already having two on their books.
