Juventus have made Emiliano Martinez their priority goalkeeper target this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Aston Villa stopper has moved to the top of their list after a deal for Alisson fell through. Talks with Villa have already begun over price and terms.

The Alisson pursuit had looked promising for the Italians. The Brazilian even agreed personal terms in April, but Liverpool have since blocked any exit.

New boss Andoni Iraola wants to build his side around Alisson, which leaves Juventus searching elsewhere.

They have pivoted quickly. “Juventus want Dibu Martínez as priority target for GK position after Alisson deal off,” Romano posted on X.

“Talks have started to ask about price and contract details, high salary but Juve keen to explore move. Another option remains Spurs GK Vicario.”

The finances make this a complex pursuit. Martinez reportedly earns around €9m net a year and is contracted until 2029.

Villa value the 33-year-old at about €40m, and Juventus cannot offer Champions League football. Those hurdles could yet persuade the Argentine to stay put.

Timing is a further factor. Martinez is with Argentina for the World Cup, so any serious negotiation likely waits until after the tournament.

Should the deal prove too difficult, Juventus have a backup. Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario remains admired in Turin and would cost far less in wages.

The Italy international has been linked with several Serie A clubs, including Inter.

For Villa, the interest brings a familiar dilemma. Unai Emery wants to keep his number one, fresh from helping the club win the Europa League.

Yet tight financial rules may force their hand, with a big sale freeing room to strengthen elsewhere.

Much will hinge on whether Juventus can meet Martinez’s wages and tempt a Midlands favourite to Italy.
