Juventus are scrambling to beat Inter Milan and AC Milan to the signing of Parma defender Giovanni Leoni.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.

Giovanni Leoni has established himself as one of the most in-demand defenders in Serie A this summer.

It is not overly difficult to see why. The 19-year-old has had an outstanding season at the back for Parma, regularly nullifying some of the division’s top centre-forwards.

And Leoni still has room to grow. The teenage defender could be a solution in defense for over a decade.

Parma paid €7 million to sign Leoni from Sampdoria last summer. However, it will likely take at least €40 million to sign the 19-year-old this summer.

According to Tuttosport, the most interest in Leoni’s signature is coming from within Serie A.

There are Premier League clubs monitoring the 19-year-old. But it is Inter, AC Milan, and Juventus who are really eyeing up a deal.

And it could turn into a race between the three Italian heavyweights. All three will have to find a way to meet Parma’s asking price, and the one to quickly come up with a way to do so could win the race.

In the case of Juventus, Tuttosport, a big defensive sale would be necessary to move for Leoni.

The newspaper report that the Bianconeri would be looking to move on former Newcastle United and Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly. They would want €20 million for the Englishman.
