Monday’s reports indicate that Juventus are all set to definitively cut ties with former head coach Thiago Motta, who is still on the club’s payroll despite his sacking in the second half of the 2024-25 season.
Thiago Motta was appointed as the head coach of Juventus ahead of the 2024-25 season, replacing Massimiliano Allegri after achieving an impressive top four finish with Bologna the campaign prior.
The Brazilian-Italian signed a three-year deal with the Bianconeri, running until the summer of 2027, but he only stayed in the job for less than a year, being replaced by Igor Tudor two thirds of the way through his first season in charge.
Tudor has since left Juventus himself and his contract was eventually terminated in January, which cleared the way for him to temporarily take over at Tottenham.
Unlike Tudor, Thiago Motta has remained out of work since leaving Juventus, and according to reports from the leading outlets in Italy, he is still on the club’s payroll well over a year after he left his coaching position with the club.

However, that could soon change as La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that from June 1 onwards, Juventus will have an option to terminate Thiago Motta’s deal thanks to a clause in his contract.
It is believed that Juve will have to pay Thiago Motta a lump sum that will be slightly lower than the cost of his remaining wages, which La Gazzetta dello Sport reports to be worth €3.5m per year.
Once this goes through, Luciano Spalletti will be the only head coach on the club’s current payroll.
