Juventus are considering a change in goal, with Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario emerging as the leading option as Michele Di Gregorio’s position weakens less than a year after his €18 million move from Monza.

A run of errors against Lazio, Inter and Como has fuelled unrest, leaving an immediate call for Luciano Spalletti to address the issue, and there is talk he could be dropped for the Champions League meeting with Galatasaray after whistles in the 2-0 defeat by Como. La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests Vicario leads Juve’s shortlist.

Vicario, 29, has spent three seasons in the Premier League and is widely seen as consistent, and he is reportedly open to a Serie A return. A proposed free move for Mike Maignan ended with his renewal at AC Milan.

Vicario earns about €4.5 million a year, a figure Juventus can absorb, and Tottenham are expected to seek €25m-€30m with his deal running to 2028. Inter are monitoring as they plan for life after Yann Sommer.

If Vicario proves out of reach, Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi is seen as a leading alternative. The 25-year-old has impressed this season, though Atalanta are likely to demand €30m-€40m and any major outlay could hinge on Champions League income.

This recruitment drive fits a push to rebuild an Italian core, with only Andrea Cambiaso and Manuel Locatelli regulars alongside Di Gregorio. A wider overhaul is expected, with Mattia Perin seeking a starting role, Carlo Pinsoglio considering retirement, and several mid-tier Serie A options monitored for back-up roles.
