Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef says the team will use the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) break in Morocco later this month to sharpen their finishing touch in front of goal.

The Soweto giants started the 2025/26 campaign on a strong note, but in recent fixtures have struggled to convert chances, missing that clinical edge up front.

Chiefs have had to settle for back-to-back goalless draws against Chippa United and TS Galaxy, with the Tunisian tactician pointing to the ongoing goal drought as the main culprit.

“I think in both matches, our analysis was the same: the most important thing is the team’s performance. We dominated both games, we created plenty of chances [but] the problem remains in the final third,” Ben Youssef lamented.

"We’re creating lots of opportunities but just haven’t had the luck to finish them off. Now, with this [AFCON] break, we can address the issue and plan ahead for how to keep pushing forward."

Alongside their scoring struggles, Ben Youssef admits frustration is growing in the camp, as dropped points have allowed their rivals to climb the league standings.

“We’re really pleased with the team’s performances in the last few matches. I think we’ve played very well, but all of us are frustrated by the points we’ve left behind because we’re not taking our chances,” he added.

"We must keep working, we have to fix this. The most important thing is that the team is playing well—if the team wasn’t performing, then we’d have a much bigger problem on our hands."

Chiefs are currently fourth on the Betway Premiership log, sitting on 24 points from 13 league games, four points behind fierce rivals and table-toppers Orlando Pirates, who have played one game fewer.
