Kalvin Phillips looks set for a second loan spell at Sheffield United for the 2026/27 season.

The Daily Mail reports he is finalising a season-long return, with Chris Wilder keen on a reunion. The Star has said Phillips would be open to going back, with living nearer family thought to appeal.

Phillips joined the Blades for the second half of last season but played only three times. His final outing brought a red card against Sheffield Wednesday, then a knee injury that required surgery ended the loan.

He returned to Manchester City this summer and was omitted from Enzo Maresca’s 28-man Asia tour squad on Tuesday. He has two years left on the six-year deal signed in 2022, but the midfielder has no future at the Etihad.

Before January, last season amounted to one eight-minute run-out in a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield Town. Across four years at City, he has started just two Premier League matches, while top-flight loans at Ipswich Town and West Ham underwhelmed.

He was also credited with helping younger midfielders Oliver Arblaster and Sydie Peck, who are 22 and 21. A return would reunite the Leeds-born midfielder with former Elland Road team-mate Patrick Bamford, who joined last year and signed an 18-month deal in January.
