Karl Darlow believes his run of starts at Leeds United can aid Wales during a crucial March break as they chase the World Cup.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 35-year-old has taken the Leeds shirt from Lucas Perri and started the last 10 Premier League matches, travelling on consecutive clean sheets against Crystal Palace and Brentford.

He is one of four Leeds players in the Wales squad, alongside Joe Rodon, Ethan Ampadu and Dan James. Having debuted fewer than two years ago, he has since become Craig Bellamy’s first-choice goalkeeper, starting Wales’ last four games, and is expected to keep the role.

Wales face Bosnia & Herzegovina on Thursday, with victory setting up a play-off decider against one of Italy or Northern Ireland. Both the semi-final and potential final are in Cardiff, which he feels could be crucial in reaching the finals in the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.

Lessons from international camps have informed his club displays, and regular starts keep him in rhythm for this window. He hopes that form leaves him well placed to contribute. On a personal level, making the World Cup would mean everything and he wants to play his part.

Darlow is among six Leeds players still in contention for the World Cup, with Rodon, Ampadu and James also involved. Gabriel Gudmundsson features for Sweden in the play-offs, while Joel Piroe’s first Suriname call-up is for qualifying deciders against Bolivia and possibly Iraq.
