Montrell Culbreath, 18, was handed his first Bayer Leverkusen start in the 1-0 win over Hamburg on Wednesday, drawing praise from Kasper Hjulmand and Robert Andrich. According to Get German Football News, both commended him.
Covering at right-back with Lucas Vazquez and Arthur injured, Culbreath played 80 minutes and went close in the seventh minute.
Hjulmand said the teenager had trained impressively, praised his mentality and character, and noted he was desperate to play. He added he was very pleased with him.
Andrich felt Culbreath delivered a very good performance and said it showed what he is capable of.
Told he would start, the German youth international said it was a surprise and he felt a little nervous, though he enjoyed the day and slept very well the night before.
After a Bundesliga debut against RB Leipzig, when he scored as a substitute, he was on the bench for VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt and Mainz. With injuries mounting, the Landstuhl-born right-back earned his chance on Wednesday.
