One club is now ready to formalise their interest in Kevin De Bruyne by making a formal contract offer to the Manchester City captain ahead of the summer.
The Belgium international midfielder shocked the football world last week when he announced across social media that he would be leaving the reigning Premier League champions at the end of the ongoing season after 10 years at the club.
Kevin De Bruyne has been arguably the most integral part of Manchester City’s success over the course of the last decade, and his importance to Pep Guardiola’s operation cannot be underestimated and has elevated the club to new heights of silverware consistency.
However, with Txiki Begiristain and the incoming Hugo Viana plotting a major rebuild of Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad, De Bruyne has been identified by the club as surplus to requirements beyond the 2024/25 campaign with no new contract offer put to the midfielder.
That leaves the former Wolfsburg and Chelsea playmaker in search of his next steps within the game, and while there had been a hope in some quarters that Manchester City could be his final club, a move to the United States could now be on the cards.
That is according to the information of The Mirror’s David McDonnell, who reports that Inter Miami have been keeping close tabs on Kevin De Bruyne’s situation, and David Beckham – alongside fellow club bosses – is ready to offer the 33-year-old a contract at the club.
While Inter Miami are said to be facing ‘strong competition’ from the Saudi Pro League, the report further explains that relocating to the United States – and Miami in particular – is a ‘big pull’ for De Bruyne and his family, more so than Saudi Arabia.
However, the Belgium international himself knows that he could secure a far more lucrative agreement if he chose to go to Saudi Arabia instead, commanding a salary of around £400,000-per-week.
Speaking over the course of last summer, De Bruyne spoke of the possibility of a move away from Manchester City and European football, opening the door to the idea with approval from his wife, Michele.
“For Michèle, an exotic adventure is okay. These are also conversations that we are increasingly having as a family,” De Bruyne said in June 2024. He continued, “I still have one year left on my City contract, so I have to think about what could happen.”
From the side of Manchester City, it remains to be seen how the club will replace Kevin De Bruyne and the arguably irreplaceable qualities he brings to Pep Guardiola’s side in numerous positions across the midfield.
The primary target is understood to be Bayer Leverkusen and Germany’s Florian Wirtz, however Manchester City will face intense competition from the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid for a player valued at around £150 million.
