Pep Guardiola has taken the controversial decision to END the Manchester City career of Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian playmaker, 33, is out of contract in summer 2025 and club bosses have opted against renewing his deal.

De Bruyne still has plenty to offer and that’s why his availability is such an intriguing prospect. Liverpool have been linked with a move for the midfielder - with De Bruyne and his family already well-settled in the North West.

He’s been at City since 2015 - winning six Premier League titles along with the Champions League and a host of individual honours. Previously linked with MLS and Saudi Arabia, it nonetheless seems that De Bruyne will continue his career at a high level.

Napoli have emerged as the strongest candidates for his signature - with the player no doubt having been delivered glowing recommendations by compatriots Dries Mertens and Romelu Lukaku.

It’s been reported in Italy that Antonio Conte’s side are currently waiting for an answer from De Bruyne over their offer.

“Napoli have made their moves (proposal of a two-year contract with bonuses) and are now waiting for the Manchester City star to draw his conclusions after having already written a farewell letter to the Citizens fans at the end of an adventure that lasted 10 years and was peppered with a trophy cabinet in which he won everything and more,” reads a report in Il Mattino via Gazzetta dello Sport.

De Bruyne is tempted by Liverpool offer

However, the report also adds that KDB is “tempted” by what’s on offer at Anfield. The current Premier League champions might not have a permanent spot for De Bruyne in midfield but he would provide a high-quality, game-changing option for Arne Slot.

This season he’s got four goals and seven assists in the Premier League for City - with Guardiola often neglecting to use the player who was once his go-to performer.
