Kevin Keegan, double Ballon d'Or winner and England great, dies aged 75 | OneFootball

Kevin Keegan died on Monday aged 75 from stage 4 cancer, the most advanced stage of the disease. His family said in a statement that he was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments.

He had revealed the diagnosis in January and had been undergoing treatment since then.

The Ballon d'Or winner in 1978 and 1979, he was a leading forward of his era. At Liverpool he won the European Cup in 1977, adding to UEFA Cup triumphs in 1973 and 1976. Across six years he played 322 games, scoring 100 goals and providing 88 assists.

He left for Hamburg in 1977, where he collected his two Ballons d'Or, the first despite missing the 1978 World Cup in Argentina. With the German side he lost the 1980 European Cup final, then later joined Southampton and Newcastle before moving outside Europe.

Nicknamed King Kev, he won 63 caps for England and scored 21 goals. He later managed the national team from 1999 to 2000, taking them to Euro 2000, where they went out in the group stage behind Portugal and Romania.

At club level he coached Newcastle from 1992 to 1997 and again in 2008, Fulham from 1998 to 1999, and Manchester City from 2001 to 2005.
