West Ham's first trip to the Den for 15 years will be broadcast on Sky Sports and ITV on September 19

Millwall host West Ham United in the first Dockers Derby since February 2012 on Saturday 19 September, and it's set to be simulcast on Sky Sports and ITV.

West Ham's rather surprising relegation from the Premier League last season means that one of the fiercest rivalries will be renewed this campaign, and we won't have to wait long to see it.

Indeed, the Hammers travel to Millwall in Matchday 8 of the 2026/27 Championship campaign, a round that also sees Black Country rivals Wolves and West Brom go head-to-head at Molineux, while AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons face off in League One and Rochdale take on Oldham Athletic in League Two.

It's a weekend filled with derbies being renewed, but the meeting between Millwall and West Ham is arguably the most anticipated matchup in the entire EFL this season.

It's already been moved to the lunchtime kickoff on Saturday 19 September to incorporate TV times, but it won't just be Sky Sports who will be showing the game.

Millwall will be welcoming West Ham to the Den on September 19 in what many hope will be a matchup stoked not only by the intense rivalry, but also by the fact that both Alex Neil's and Nuno Espírito Santo's sides could be among the early pacesetters through seven games.

The first Dockers Derby at the Den in just over 15 years to the day will be broadcast on Sky Sports, but will also be shown on ITV as part of the deal between the broadcaster and the EFL.

This means that anyone can watch the game as long as they pay their TV licence fee, with the game not exclusively shown on Sky Sports in the UK, which requires a subscription.

Millwall vs West Ham is the second of five confirmed Championship games this season shown live simultaneously on ITV as part of the continued broadcast deal with the EFL, which runs out at the end of this season.

The deal, which started in January 2025, sees 10 second-tier matches broadcast on free TV, as well as at least nine EFL Cup matches and the weekly EFL highlights show, which airs on ITV1 or ITV4.

Middlesbrough's home matchup with West Brom is the first simulcast game of the season, with the likes of the South Coast Derby and the East Lancashire Derby also being shown on ITV over the coming months.

West Ham fans will be able to watch their side on free TV twice in the first half of the season, with their December trip to Birmingham City also being televised.

There have only been three Dockers Derby matchups in the last 20 years. In the EFL Cup in 2009 and then in the Championship during the 2011/12 campaign — the last time West Ham were in the second tier.

That cup tie saw an infamous riot at Upton Park overshadow a 3-1 win after extra time for the Hammers. The two league games a couple of years later saw fewer off-field issues, and West Ham picked up four points over their rivals.

The two sides drew 0-0 at the Den in September 2011, but it wouldn't be as cagey an affair at Upton Park, especially after West Ham captain Kevin Nolan was sent off after just nine minutes.

In the end, goals from Carlton Cole and Winston Reid either side of Liam Trotter's brilliant strike secured all three points for Sam Allardyce's side.

After a third-placed finish last season, though, Millwall will be looking to make this matchup a lot more competitive than it could have been if the two had gone head-to-head in recent seasons.

West Ham have been on top in terms of divisional status for 15 years, and Alex Neil's side will be eager to prove that they're at that level, or even better, next season at their expense.
