Question marks were raised over whether WSL top scorer would remain in Manchester
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw will be staying at Manchester City, having signed a new long-term contract at the club.
Her contract had been due to expire at the culmination of the 2025-26 season, though, and Standard Sport understands that Chelsea held a strong interest in the Women’s Super League top goalscorer, eyeing her as a replacement for the outgoing Sam Kerr. It is also believed that London City Lionesses had Shaw on their summer wishlist.
But Shaw has shrugged off the Blues’ attempts to lure her south, extending her City stint through to the summer of 2030.
The Jamaica international has hit 21 league goals in 22 appearances this season, picking up the golden boot as she fired City to their first WSL title since 2016.
“I’m still here,” she told the thousands of fans gathered.
“I’m still hungry, and there’s no place I’d rather be. I’m happy to announce that I’ll be staying at the football club.”
She told the club website: “I’m so happy to be at this incredible club for another four years.
“I’ve always said that Manchester City feels like home – I’ve developed so much as a player and grown so much as a person during my first five years here.
“Helping the girls win the WSL title is one of the proudest moments of my career, and I’m so excited to see what we can do next season and beyond.”
Shaw could yet help City claim a domestic double this season as she braces to lead the line against Brighton in the FA Cup final on Sunday, May 31.
With her future still in the balance earlier this month, the striker struck two decisive late goals as City came from behind to knock Chelsea out of the FA Cup semi-final, equalising in the 91st minute before hitting an extra-time winner.
It remains to be seen where the Blues, who ultimately finished six points adrift of champions City, will look to replace the prolific goalscorer Kerr.
