Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has insisted he will sit down with chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak ahead of the club’s final day clash with Aston Villa to discuss his future.
Manchester City officially surrendered in the Premier League title race to Arsenal after being held to a 1-1 draw away at Bournemouth, as the relentless Cherries extended their spectacular unbeaten streak to 17 matches through Eli Junior Kroupi’s brilliant first-half opener.
Despite a crucial save by Djordje Petrovic to deny Nico O’Reilly, Erling Haaland eventually bundled home a late equaliser, but the single point mathematically confirmed Mikel Arteta’s men as champions before their final trip to Crystal Palace.

The fallout from the result has been completely intertwined with intense media speculation indicating that Pep Guardiola is prepared to step down from his managerial position at Manchester City after 10 years this summer.
While the head coach insisted that media leaks had “absolutely zero” impact on his squad’s preparation, the visible fatigue of a gruelling multi-front campaign was clear to see at a raucous Vitality Stadium.
With the club on the precipice of a major transition in the dugout under Sporting Director Hugo Viana, the 55-year-old Catalan used his post-match media duties to forcefully re-establish a timeline on his future.
Speaking with reporters after the 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Tuesday night, Pep Guardiola was quizzed directly by one journalist on whether he will be Manchester City manager next season.
“Listen, with the club always I’ve talked – not now, since three or four seasons ago when there was one year [contract] left – and the first thing you have to understand is I should talk with my chairman [Khaldoon Al Mubarak] first, right? After that, we’ll decide if I have one more year, we’ll talk everything, and we will decide,” said Guardiola.
On whether talks with Al Mubarak will only take place after Sunday’s match against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, Guardiola revealed, “No, no we’ll talk in these next days.”
“Now is the moment with Ferran [Soriano, CEO] and especially my chairman [Khaldoon Al Mubarak] to talk and after that we’ll see what happens.”
Manchester City fans at the Vitality Stadium were keen to show their firm desire for Pep Guardiola to stay one more year at the club, and when asked for a response to those chants of support, Guardiola said, “LET ME TALK WITH MY CHAIRMAN!
“I know they [the fans] love me so much, I love you more! I know that! It’s the best place to be, I love this place. I adore it! So let me talk about my club, right? Even if the people say I’ve talked with a thousand million people and persons.”
He added, “I was just incredibly, incredibly focussed on my job, and when we are in competitions I’m there, I was there and this is what I have to do.”
Pep Guardiola’s plea to “let me talk with my chairman” highlights a severe friction between media narratives and internal execution of the matter from within the Etihad Stadium.
Top-tier publications have continuously advanced reports that former assistant coach Enzo Maresca has already locked down an agreement to assume the head coaching responsibilities ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

But by pulling CEO Ferran Soriano and Khaldoon Al Mubarak back into the spotlight, Pep Guardiola is perhaps signalling that his contractual obligations are not a mere formality to be swept away, leaving a minor and unlikely window open for a sensational continuation.
As the squad regroups to host Aston Villa in what was widely predicted to be a formal farewell parade, the next 48 hours will dictate the mood around the Etihad Stadium for the final game of the season.
