Vazi, a Georgian restaurant in Paris’s 11th, erupted as PSG retained the Champions League against Arsenal, with Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia front and centre.
According to L'Équipe, the room buzzed at every Kvaratskhelia touch. On 63 minutes he won a penalty after a Cristhian Mosquera foul, and Ousmane Dembélé equalised from the spot.
It finished 1-1, PSG then won 4-3 on penalties after Gabriel missed Arsenal’s fifth kick. The back room exploded before emptying onto avenue Ledru-Rollin as celebrations took over.
Tatia Turdziladze, in a Georgia shirt bearing Kvaratskhelia’s name, filmed through tears. Jaba in PSG colours sprayed beer and led Georgian chants for Paris Saint-Germain, celebrating with Giorgi Majsuradze, Tatia’s husband and a former Georgia Under-21 forward, as Marquinhos lifted the trophy.
Open for two years, this slice of Georgia in the east of the capital sits about one and a half kilometres from Place de la Nation. Owner Ketevan Zivzivadze said she is not really a football fan yet always watches Kvaratskhelia, whom she knows a little and calls discreet, their star.
Her daughter Mariam turned 18 on the night, surrounded by friends, some still working out the laws. She will always link her birthday to their Kvara and the triumph.
