The Georgian federation announced on Tuesday that Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia has been designated as the national teams future captain, to take the armband once Guram Kashia retires.

Georgia, coached by Willy Sagnol, will see Kashia end his international career on the first of June after a final friendly against Romania at 22:00.

With the Slovan Bratislava defender unavailable for the March window, Kvaratskhelia is expected to wear the armband in friendlies against Israel on Thursday at 18:00 and Lithuania on Sunday at 15:00.

Called up since 2019, Kvaratskhelia has 47 caps and 20 goals. He has already captained Georgia three times, in his last three outings, against Türkiye in October 2025 then Spain and Bulgaria in November.

The PSG player will be the clubs third to have this responsibility, alongside Marquinhos for Brazil and Achraf Hakimi for Morocco.
