Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has not held talks with Rangers over their managerial vacancy, and he will not be leaving for Ibrox.
Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna has revealed that he has not held talks with Rangers over becoming their new head coach.
The 39-year-old has done a fantastic job at Ipswich over the past few years, which included winning successive promotions to take the Tractor Boys back to the Premier League.
Whilst Ipswich were relegated last season, McKenna’s stock remains high, and it had been claimed that Rangers had spoken to the ex-Man Utd coach about succeeding Russell Martin at Ibrox following his dismissal over the international break.
However, in a fresh update, McKenna denied that a move could be on the cards, as he dismissed talk that he had even been in contact with Rangers, when quizzed on his future by TWTD.
Kevin Muscat and Danny Rohl are heavily linked with the job at Rangers, with former boss Steven Gerrard having withdrawn from the race to take the job last week.
Obviously, this is a very positive update for Ipswich, as McKenna is a brilliant head coach, and he is integral to what they are planning to achieve in the years to come, and his comments here have made it clear that he hasn't been looking to secure a switch away.
In truth, they wouldn’t have been overly concerned about the rumours linking McKenna with Rangers, as he had been on the radar of Brighton and Chelsea last year, but he stuck by Ipswich and was rewarded with a new, long-term contract.
So, it would have been a huge surprise if he decided to leave that for Rangers, particularly given the backing he received in the summer to reshape the Ipswich squad.
That’s not to say the day won’t come when McKenna moves on, but, after the relegation, it does feel like he still has work to do with Ipswich, and the goal will be to help the club back to the Premier League, and to establish the Suffolk outfit back in the top flight.
Now, any talk of McKenna departing for Rangers is over, and the only priority for the boss and his team is to continue their good form when they return to action at Middlesbrough on Friday night.
