Merry Christmas everyone, peace to you all, and I hope Santa was very good to you!

For the first time in a while we will be tucking into our Turkey full in the knowledge that we won’t be top of the tree where it concerns the league standings on Christmas morning.

That accolade belongs to Heart of Midlothian who are enjoying a splendid campaign, and richly deserve their top of the table status. Saying anything less would be wrong. Fair play to Derek McInnes and his players. The table never lies.

As for ourselves we are currently trailing the Jambos by six points, albeit with the advantage of a game in hand, and it’s a position we can have no complaints about being in due to the way we have woefully approached this campaign, both on and off the park.

Next up for the Hoops is a trip to West Lothian to take on a struggling Livingston side, but I don’t have to tell you how difficult that will be. Then it’s is an even more difficult trip to Fir Park to take on an in form Motherwell side who currently occupy third place ahead of theRangers.

After two difficult away trips we start 2026 at home to fourth placed theRangers, and it goes without saying how vital it is that we earn all three points. In an ideal world we want to win all three fixtures, but such is football you can be rest assured it won’t all be plain sailing.

It’s not beyond possibility that we could be back on top if we win all our fore-mentioned games, if results elsewhere were to go in our favour, but it’s extremely doubtful all the same, such is the good form of Hearts, but you just never know. Hibs fancy their chances in the Edinburgh derby and would love to knock Hearts off their perch.

With tough fixtures for both sides still to be negotiated, the title is still very much in the balance, so it’s not done by a long shot. A good January window and a couple of uplifting results, combined with the return of several key players will put us in good place come May when it’s time for the prizes to be handed out.

Much could depend on which of the top two come out of the January transfer window stronger and given Celtic’s dreadful performances in both windows in 2025 we can’t take anything for granted that it will be third time lucky from those in charge of our signings – Paul Tisdale and Michael Nicholson.

God willing we will be back at the place we have occupied for so long. And that of course is the top of the tree.

Merry Christmas and hail hail to Celtic supporters everywhere…
