Liam Rosenior has been defending Alejandro Garnacho in some comments from his press conference this week.
“Garna is an outstanding player. I have really liked in this period his reaction to not starting. He has been training very well,” the manager said.
We can well believe that. There’s never been any question over the winger’s attitude in training, at least at Chelsea.
The next part is slightly harder to believe.

“Garna has put himself in a really, really good place in the last few weeks and he’s more than knocking on the door to start. We’ve got to take into account that Garna is 21. He’s got huge ability. He’s got huge potential.”
If Garnacho had really been knocking on the door – wouldn’t he have started by now? You’ve got Estevao and Jamie Gittens both out, and Garnacho still couldn’t get a start. Even more damning, he didn’t get on the pitch in two of our last 3 league games, and got 5 minutes in the third. That hardly screams “knocking on the door” to us.
Still, those absences make a start tonight feel likely, and we hope he takes advantage of it against Aston Villa. We desperately need an attacker to take their chances and create some threat.
Rosenior also pointed out that he had seen a sign in training that there wasn’t any time left for mistakes – the return of the white balls to training.
