Kobbie Mainoo has signed a new Manchester United deal running to 2031, extending a contract that was due to end in June 2027.

The agreement took time to be finalised. The 21-year-old England international has 12 caps.

The delay was in part because manager Ruben Amorim did not place great trust in him, while his successor since January, Michael Carrick, has made the academy graduate an undisputed starter.

Mainoo said United has always felt like home for him and that the club means everything to his family. He also spoke about the responsibility that comes with wearing the shirt and the impact the club has on the city.

Director of football Jason Wilcox hailed the renewal, describing Mainoo as among the world's most talented young footballers. He highlighted the midfielder's technique, flawless professionalism and humility as an example to academy players and a credit to the club's development programme.
