Vincent Kompany has said it is important that he doesn't 'believe the hype' after guiding Bayern Munich into the Champions League semi-finals.
Bayern beat Real Madrid 4-3 in a thrilling quarter-final tie on Wednesday night, sealing a 6-4 aggregate success against the Spanish giants.
The club's impressive European performances have come alongside a record-breakingBundesliga campaign, in which the Bavarians have scored 105 goals in just 27 games.
Bayern's season has seen Kompany championed as one of the best young coaches in world football. However, the 40-year-old has refused to listen to outside noise, regardless of its positivity.
Kompany's appointment at Bayern was questioned after the Belgian had been relegated with Burnley from the Premier League. It's an initial view that the Bayern boss has not forgotten.
"Don't believe the hype, don't believe the drama,"Kompany said on his subsequent success at the Allianz Arena.
"When I arrived here at Bayern, I'd been promoted with 101 points (at Burnley), then relegated with 20, then won the league here – two years ago I was the worst manager and today I’m the very best.
"f you let yourself be influenced by all that noise, you’ll end up getting worse. It’s nicer this way, but I can live with criticism. It really doesn't matter to me."
