After their 3-1 win over FC Köln tonight, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany ensured the club's best ever return from the first-half of a Bundesliga season.

Their record of 47 points & +53 goal difference after 17 games sees them surpass Bayern's former achievement set by Pep Guardiola (47points & +35 goal difference in 2013/14).

"It's difficult to say because this contradicts my mentality a bit. It's not a title. But I told the boys the record they achieved is incredible, because it's the players who did it.

“From tomorrow the second half of the season starts, and everything starts from zero again. I'm not used to celebrating records, but I congratulated the boys,” he added.

Kompany then gave a brief update on his players – namely Harry Kane, Hiroki Itō and Konrad Laimer who all picked up knocks during the game at the RhineEnergie Stadion.

“Konny [Laimer] felt something in his calf. We have to wait. We'll be back to Munich tomorrow and he'll have a scan. The others (Kane and Itō) were able to play through.

“We have many games in a short period [coming up]. Hopefully Jamal [Musiala] and Phonzy [Davies] will be back soon. And hopefully Konny is fine,” Kompany said.

The reigning German champions will quickly turn their attention to a meeting with third-place RB Leipzig next Saturday evening.
