Bayern Munich will be without one of their key players when they face Werder Bremen on Saturday, as Michael Olise is suspended.
Speaking at a press conference Friday, head coach Vincent Kompany was asked about the Frenchman's absence and expressed confidence in his squad's depth.
“Michael has obviously been excellent so far. The main thing is he’s not injured,” Kompany said.
“We’ve got options to replace him for this one game. Then a different player can look forward to playing.”
Kompany didn't reveal his plans to replace Olise, but youngster Lennart Karl looks like to be handed the start on the right wing after being rested for Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal.
Kompany approaches the fixture with care, aware of the threat Bremen poses.
“We always say there are no easy Bundesliga games. They’ve got a new coach, which adds some variability to the game. In terms of their play, they haven’t performed badly,” Kompany said.
“They’ve simply scored too few goals. When you look at the overall picture, they haven’t been as poor as you might think. They’re a good team who, when they have confidence, are difficult to play against in all areas. When there’s a new coach at an opponent, you need to be tactically flexible and focus on their strengths.”
