Kortrijk have announced the signing of former Charleroi captain Marco Ilaimaharitra. The 29-year-old Madagascan has been a free agent since his contract with Charleroi expired in the summer. He has signed initially until the end of the season, with the club having the option to extend this for a further year. Clearly this will be dependent on whether or not the side remain in the Pro League. They are currently second from bottom, six points clear of 12th and safety.

Ilaimaharitra began his career in France with Sochaux, making 106 appearances for the French side between 2013 and 2017. He then moved across the border to sign for Charleroi on a free. Over the course of seven seasons he played 231 times for the side, scoring 15 goals. He was also made captain of the side and last year scored four goals in 31 games. It was somewhat of a surprise that it has taken the midfielder this long to find a new club. He has been a consistent performer in the middle of the park in the Belgian Pro League for a number of seasons.

Ilaimaharitra is also a full Madagascan international and scored his first goal for his nation during the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.
